Your first competition costume should do three things: fit like a second skin, catch the light, and survive a long day backstage.
Fit first. A costume that pinches at the shoulders will distract you during every toss. Pay for tailoring before you pay for extra stones.
Stoning patterns should follow the body's lines — a strong V across the bodice, a sweep along the hip — so the eye reads the silhouette, not the fabric.
Budget-wise: a great mid-range costume with selective stoning often photographs better than a heavily-stoned cheap base. Quality fabric reads on camera.
