The first five skills every twirler should master
A simple progression from your first grip to your first toss — what to drill, in what order, and why.

Most twirlers remember the first time the baton actually behaved itself. The trick isn't a hidden technique — it's the order you learn things in.
Start with grip and balance. Before any spin, you need a feel for where the baton lives between your fingers and in your hand. Spend a week on this and everything else gets easier.
Then the figure-eight. It teaches your wrist to relax and your shoulder to stay calm. A loose figure-eight is the foundation for every flourish you'll do later.
Next come basic spins, the simple one-hand catch, and finally a short, low toss. Five skills. Drilled in this order, you'll have a real foundation in six to eight weeks.
Don't rush past the basics — every routine you ever perform sits on top of them.
